Species:Mycobacterium smegmatis
Strain designation:MC2 155 groEL1ΔC
Accession number: LMBP 13763
Depositor: This host strain was deposited by Prof. Dr M. Wilmanns1 and K. Beckham1. It was constructed by Dr E. Noens1.
1 European Molecular Biology Laboratory EMBL, Hamburg, Germany
Containment level: This strain has been assigned the containment level Class 2 following the European Directive 2009/41/EC on the contained use of genetically modified organisms, and its updates (see also the Belgian risk group classification).
Medium: 7H9 (s: 7H10) + OADC
Selection marker: /
Temperature: 37°C
Genotype: -
Phenotype: -
Properties: The non-pathogenic bacterium Mycobacterium smegmatis is widely used as a near-native expression host for the purification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis proteins. To improve purification efficiency and yield of polyhistidine-tagged mycobacterial target proteins, the GroEL1ΔC mutant was created by removing the coding sequence for the histidine-rich C-terminus.
Further information: There is a genome sequence of the parental strain Mycobacterium smegmatis MC2 155 available at Genbank (Accession number: NC_008596.1).
